Jon Bick and Kara Nicholas Wedding

Venue: Alex's On The Water
Date: August 16, 2014

Bick19It’s strange to be sitting here writing about Jon and Kara’s wedding.  Sure, it’s nuts to think that I’m in still in 2014 with my Event Recaps, but mostly because since their wedding, I have seen them in two different weddings as guests/wedding party.  In fact, this wedding was kind of a hub of others because it featured brides from the Harlach wedding earlier in 2014 and both the Bick and Ball weddings of 2015.  It really is always great to see them, but it’s a constant reminder on how hopelessly behind I am on these.

The day began with an outdoor wedding at Alex On The Water’s beautiful ceremony state overlooking Lake Ontario…. at least it was supposed to, but Mother Nature had other thoughts.  Rain may have forced the ceremony indoors but it didn’t put a damper on the day.  The bridal party entered into the partitioned reception space (A Thousand Years – The Piano Guys) followed by our lovely bride (Canon in D – Pachelbel).  When the I-Do’s were said, Jon and Kara walked away from their ceremony (Best Day of My Life – American Authors).

Following a quick cocktail hour in the bar area, the walls were opened and the reception room was revealed.  The guests took their seats and the introductions were given and the event began.  Jon and Kara had something a little different in mind for their entrance.  In August of 2014, Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO was not only a popular choice for dance floors, but also for grand entrance.  However, Jon and Kara made it their own by having mix in the theme song to Monday Night Football as a lead-in to Party Rock Anthem.  And to that song, the wedding party made their entrances, followed by Jon and Kara being introduced as the Mr. and Mrs. Jon and Kara Bick.  Their First Dance (I Don’t Dance – Lee Brice) was directly after the introductions and that was followed by speeches and toasts and finally a sit-down dinner for the 130 or so guests in attendance.

Before kicking off the dance part of the night, as dinner ended the parents dances began.  First, Kara got to dance with her father (In My Daughter’s Eyes – Martina McBride) with the Mother/Son dance (My Wish – Rascal Flatts) coming right after.  Finally the dance floor was opened up and the real party began, and what a party it was!  Jon and Kara requested which song kicked off their dance floor, which was We Are Family – Sister Sledge, a song which really set the tone for the rest of the night.  The dance floor was filled all night.  Local news anchor from WSYR, Rod Wood was even there and Salt City Sound Machine caught him cutting a rug to a little bit of Usher.  There were dance circles, group dances, and all sorts of music throughout the years to get everyone involved.  Also, let’s not forget about some more special momentI  There were no Generations or Dollar Dances, but Jon and Kara did have a Cake Cutting (How Sweet it Is (To Be Loved By You) – Marvin Gaye).
Later in the night, something happened that has been discussed by the photographers, myself, and even new clients to Salt City Sound Machine.  The photographers, Holly Moran and Cylinda Battaglia, have become friends of SCSM, and we recall this moment often.  Both fathers of the Bride and Groom had begun an air-guitar competition… an air-jam session if you will.  The music was playing and they were playing their imaginary axes alongside.  Naturally, this attracted a large crowd which presented a problem for Cylinda, who was straining to get her camera over the crowd for that perfect shot.  So, I simply told her to get on my shoulders and a few seconds later, Cylinda and her camera were more than 6 feet higher in the air and from what I told, got some wonderful shots.  I always like helping a fellow vendor and if my clients got better pictures out of it, Bonus!

Shortly after the air guitar jamboree, the night began to wind down to a close.  Jon and Kara danced to their selected last song (Closing Time – Semisonic) and went off together as the world’s latest Husband and Wife.

Congratulations to Jon and Kara.  Thank you for choosing Salt City Sound Machine and we wish you the best of luck in the future!
