Nick Curley and Andrea Viel Wedding

Venue: MKJ Farms – Deansboro, NY
Date: Friday, August 01, 2014

Curley27We were back in the barn to kick off August of 2014.  As mentioned previously, barn weddings have become very popular and it was great to debut in one of the local barn venues to make their way onto the scene, MKJ Farm.  And it was at this setting where Nick Curley and Andrea Viel began their marriage with a ceremony and reception and a sparkling finish.

Before the party began, the ceremony took place.  While Salt City Sound Machine did not supply music, we were on hand for speakers and microphones for the live musician that provided the soundtrack.  Soon after, the music began for the cocktail hour, where guests enjoyed drinks, smokes from the Cigar Bar complete with customized matchbooks, and the rustic aesthetical accents that Nick and Andrea provided to accent the barn setting.

The reception began as they usually do with the entrances.  As the groups being announced came into the barn, they were accompanied by group-based themes including the Parents of the Groom (Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) – Bruce Springsteen), Parents of the Bride (Steppin’ Out With My Baby – Frank Sinatra), and Wedding Party (Timber – Pitbull, Feat. Ke$ha).  Finally Nick and Andrea made their way into the barn (Let’s Get Married – Jagged Edge) and after their smiles and applause headed straight to the head table.  Saving dances for later, the night shifted to speeches and toasts by the Maid of Honor, Best Man, and Father of the Bride before finally settling in to a buffet dinner.

Dinner ended and dancing kicked off with the official dances of the night.  Nick and Andrea made their way to the back of the barn’s dance floor for the First Dance (Your Song – Elton John).  Little by little as the song went on, a group gathered on the edge of the dance floor as the dances went on.  Next up were Parents’ dances: the Father/Daughter dance (Father and Daughter – Paul Simon) and the Mother/Son dance (Simple Man – Lynard Skynard) respectively.  Finally to close out the official dances, Nick and Andrea invited all of the married couples out onto the dance floor for the Generations Dance.  Sometimes it might be difficult to narrow down the songs you want during your reception, so in the case of Nick and Andrea, they left the Generations Dance songs to be DJ’s Choice and Salt City Sound Machine was happy to oblige (Grow Old With You – Adam Sandler, Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra, A Thousand Years – Christina Perri).

Barring another DJ choice for the cake cutting (I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)), the rest of the time was completely dedicated to dancing and having fun.  There were nearly four hours of dance time to cap off the evening before the Last Dance ((I’ve Had) The Time of my Life – Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes).  And during those four hours, the made sure the dance floor was filled, probably courtesy of the flip flops the bride provided.  Some people danced on chairs, some rolled on the floor.  Group dances and all sorts of genres worked for this group that just wanted to have fun.  In specific, since the groom was a fan of Tupac, songs like California Love and I Get Around were particularly popular.  But SCSM could pretty much play anything and all groups of young and old seemed to enjoy it all.

As the night went to a close, it was time for a fantastic send off.  The remaining guests went outside with their matches and sprinklers that were provided and lit up a spectacular line of hand-held fireworks for the bride and groom  to walk through.  So as the crowd cheered and the photo ops were taken, Nick and Andrea finished their wedding with some fireworks and some love, appropriate to cap off an explosive night.

Congratulations to Nick and Andrea.  Thank you for choosing Salt City Sound Machine and we wish you the best of luck in the future!
